The Prado Museum
The Prado Museum is Madrid's top cultural sight, and one of the world's greatest art galleries. Located in the eponymous street, El Paseo del Prado, its dazzling display of works by the great European masters such as Velázquez, Goya, Raphael, Rubens, and Bosch (among other major Italian and Flemish artists), is housed in an 18th-century Neo-Classical building that opened as a museum in 1819.

Royal Theater of Madrid
This is the Opera of Madrid, one of the most important in the country. From the outside, it is an imposing building, fitting perfectly in the Plaza de Oriente, just in front of the Royal Palace. But from the inside it is one of the places that will leave you overwhelmed, especially after seeing the auditorium itself. It is a huge and luxurious room, which does not leave anyone disappointed.

Madrid's 18th century hospital was beautifully remodelled and converted into a museum in 1992, with two panoramic glass lifts standing out in the façade. In 2005 it added an extension designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. Its official name is the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Two of the floors are devoted to temporary exhibits, while the other two are for the permanent collection which also covers Abstract, Pop, and Minimal Art movements.

The Palacio Real or Royal Palace is the largest and certainly one of the most impressive palaces in Europe. It has more than 2000 luxuriously decorated rooms, 50 of which can be visited. It is located on the east of Madrid's historic center, within walking distance of the Plaza de España.

It underwent a period of great splendour until it was closed in the early 20th century due to its poor state of repair. It was then restored and re-opened in 1966 as a concert hall, until it underwent further refurbishments before finally opening again in 1997. The venue seats 1,745 people.

Almudena Cathedral
Begun in 1879 but inaugurated in 1993, the cathedral is Neo-Gothic with chapels and statues of contemporary artists.The Neo-Romanesque crypt houses a 16th century image of the "Virgen de la Almudena."

Casa de Campo
The Casa de Campo, situated in the Moncloa district of the city and practically a prolongation of the "Monte del Pardo" forest area, is Madrid's largest park (and also one of Europe's) with over 1700 hectares.
It includes a lake, the city’s zoo and amusement park, and although it is not as popular as the Retiro, it is also where Madrid families usually head to on sunny days. The Teleférico cable car also ends here in its journey from Paseo del Pintor Rosales.
